Chamakh at arsenal

Marouane Chamakh, Arsenal's marquee signing of the summer if you will, looks to have seamlessly slotted into arsenal's set-up and is looking to be a fantastic buy for the gunners. Buy just why has the Moroccan international's transition been so quick?

Arsenal in 2009 – 10 Arsenal played with what was widely regarded as a 4-3-3, but in effect was a fluid 4-2-3-1 formation. This consisted of two central midfielders holding the centre of the park, whilst Fabregas played between the lines. Two wide players, usually Arshavin and Nasri, looked to cut in from the flanks, whilst a single striker played as a ‘false nine’, dropping deep.

Chamakh at bordeaux:

Chamakh actually has the attributes to play in 4-2-3-1, as he played the stiker’s role in this formation at Bordeaux. The team played two slightly deeper central midfielders, with attacking support from three forward midfielders. Their line-up against Bayern Munich in last season’s Champions League is a good example of  Bordeaux’s system in action.

Now this is where it all comes together...

Jussie looked to cut in, whilst the two fullbacks went on the overlap, especially Chalme, rather like the system employed by Clichy and Sagna at Arsenal. Gourcuff played a more similar role to Mesut Ozil for Germany than Fabregas at Arsenal though.

All in all it seems Chamakh is another typical buy from Wenger. A tall centre forward who likes to drift out wide and has good link up play. But it is not just his positional awareness, it's his strength and speed that has allowed him to adapt so quickly to the English game

I'm expecting a good season from Chamakh, and I have to say, he hasn't disappointed thus far.

  1. Wow dude, I had no idea soccer was this complicated. Then again, I'm not too into sports so I only know the general gameplay and scoring. Keep up the awesome content with pics.

  5. Chamakh has been class so far. Seems to be better with his head than Bendtner ever was and it's about time Arsenal had someone who posed a threat in the air.

  6. I wish I got into soccer when I was a kid. I played basketball, but I stopped growing and ended up with the skills of a power forward and the height of point guard. Shit was disastrous.
